Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipnew Jersey state and federal leaders are also speaking out about the death of a 14-year-old American citizen from Saddlebrook who was shot and killed by Israeli military forces in the West Bank on Sunday in a statement the IDF confirmed troops opened fire on three people killing one calling them terrorists all three were teenagers the incident comes amid a rise in tensions and violence in Gaza and the occupied West Bank as President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today met at the White House to talk about among other things a possible ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas meanwhile at Princeton University tonight there's mis mixed reaction over an invitation for former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to speak whose recent appearance at Harvard and Colombia universities also drew protests some students and Princeton locals tell Ted Goldberg they feel disturbed and threatened by Bennett's visit due to his controversial political history former Israeli Prime Minister Navtali Bennett is speaking at Princeton tonight drawing a very wide range of reactions it is our honor uh to to to bring that head of state bennett's racist violent rhetoric and policies are antithetical to Jewish teaching and Jewish law rabbi Gil Steinoff says the Center for Jewish Life at Princeton is proud to host Bennett as the leader tours American college campuses this is an opportunity for the students and the university community to meet somebody who speaks for the state of Israel and to be an open dialogue and to have uh free discourse to be able to bring the conversation to the students and community and to allow this kind of this kind of highlevel nuance conversation to happen some have harshly criticized Princeton for giving Bennett a platform bennett has consistently opposed a two-state solution in Israel and has been accused of using racist language towards Arab and Palestinian people to the racist fas fascists like Napali Bennett who spew bigoted hatred and violence against Arabs i want you to know that you are responsible for the deaths of all these innocent people just a couple of months ago my uncle's house was burned down to the ground by Israeli settlers and not a single person has ever been brought to justice because of racist policies and people like Natali Bennett princeton tells us that the campus is open to any speaker whom students or faculty have invited and if arrangements have been made with the university the same war criminal Bennett that boasted about killing Arabs and said that it is okay to do so the same war criminal Bennett that a few weeks ago at Harvard University during his talk mocked giving pagers to pro Palestinian protesters in reference to the war crimes that Israel committed against Lebanese and Syrians this is the the core experience of living in an a dynamic diverse free speech environment on a college campus that everybody is going to be made uncomfortable this isn't the first protest Princeton has seen around Israel last May students here called for the school to divest from Israel and formed a pro Palestinian encampment that lasted three weeks the school has also faced allegations of anti-semitism and recently saw federal research funding paused though it's unclear if they're connected despite these tensions Bennett is still scheduled to speak tonight and he's expected to draw a large protest outside his presence on our campus is a desecration of God's name to his enabling of apartheid genocide and annexation Jews at Princeton say not in our name everybody has a voice and everybody has an opportunity to bring speakers and to and to have their own voices heard and their own opinions expressed uh that's certainly what we've been doing in the Jewish community both on the left and on the right and that is certainly continuing now through this event and it can continue for everybody else on this campus in in all of their diversity of views and perspectives israel and Hamas had reached a ceasefire that lasted about 2 months israel resumed air strikes on Gaza on March 18th and the ongoing war's effects are still being felt on Princeton and worldwide in Princeton I'm Ted Goldberg NJ Spotlight News [Music]
